When it comes to studio or live event operations, especially when working, for example, with mixing consoles or digital recorders, the tried and tested D-Sub (D-subminiature) connectors (already developed by Cannon at the beginning of the 50s) are still useful and appreciated and often used in combination with multicore cables. Their advantage: due to the connector design, several individual channels can be managed in a very space-saving way and thus used for multi-channel transmissions of digital audio signals.
Typically, these are 25-pin cable-connector combinations, which are widely known as Sub-D 25 in the field of computer technology. Various manufacturers, though, also put them to use in the audio sector. The best known brands in this context are probably Tascam and Yamaha.
Tascam utilizes them for their TDIF (Tascam Digital Interface) interface for the bidirectional transmission (forward and return) of eight digital channels. Yamaha’s digital PAs feature Sub-D 25 with a different pin assignment.
This differing configuration is the decisive factor when it comes to picking the appropriate cable. A Sub-D cable (i.e. multicore and connector) for Tascam does not fit Yamaha devices regarding the pin configuration and vice versa. Cordial, for example, offers you several options, e.g. the digital interface CFD DDT, which complies with the Tascam DSUB 25 specification (with 2x D-Sub 25 pin male connectors), and the digital interface CFD DDTY that can be used for the communication between devices with Tascam specifications and devices with Yamaha configurations. In addition, there are diverse combinations such as various "D-Sub to XLR" or "D-Sub to jack".
So we can assure you that in our portfolio you’ll always find the spot-on multicore with the appropriate D-Sub connector configuration for studio or live applications and suitable for all kinds of mixers and purposes.
